Foster Carer Support Groups
C.O.P.E
C.O.P.E was a name arrived at by the carers at our November 05 conference and in essence means that no carer of Aboriginal children or young people should feel isolated again. If they choose to become a member of their local support group, they will be part of a very large, supportive and increasingly strong state network. Even though not all carers can attend support group meetings, C.O.P.E can still provide support and assistance for these carers.
There are currently thirty six constituted Aboriginal Foster Carer Support Groups (C.O.P.E) established throughout the State. It is the hope of AbSec that all carers who don't have a group at the moment will have one established in their area in the future. These groups will be based on the locations serviced by all of DoCS' community service centres in NSW. If you are interested in joining a support group or would like to know if their is a supoprt group already established in your community please contact the Foster Carer Support Team on our toll free number 1800 888 698.
