Sorry Day 2010

-

National Sorry Day 2010 On Wednesday 26 May 2010 AbSec staff were invited guests to Community Services (Ashfield) National Sorry Day event. A range of speeches were made, including a response from Glendra Stubbs, Link Up CEO (and Board Member) following the Apology made by Annette Gallard, Chief Executive Community Services. Community Services reaffirmed their apology to members of the Stolen Generations and to their families and descendants. A formal framed written apology signed by Annette Gallard was presented to AbSec. National Sorry Day pays homage to members of the Stolen Generations and their families. Sorry Day events are held across Australia, including memorial services, bridge walks, survival celebrations and community gatherings. It is also a timely reminder to us all of the past injustices that affected and continue to affect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. For us at AbSec, it reminds us that we still have a lot of work to do when one third of all children in NSW that are in out of home care are Aboriginal.
