Aboriginal Guardianship Support Model Workshops

Upcoming Guardianship Support Community Workshops

Help make a difference to the lives of Aboriginal children and young people on guardianship orders and their families in NSW. Join us in having your say at community workshops in August and September 2020 (subject to COVID-19 restrictions).

Recently, guardians told us about their experiences with the shift to Guardianship and about not being eligible for ongoing assistance and support from DCJ or an out-of-home care agency. We thank all the guardians who shared their stories and gave us great feedback about what might bring better outcomes for their kids.

AbSec is hosting community workshops in the Hunter and South West Sydney to gather ideas and insights on opportunities for support for Aboriginal children with Guardianship orders and their families. We are bringing people together to design a new model of guardianship support designed with guardians and community.

We are designing a support model to meet the immediate and long-term needs of these children and young person with a guardianship order.

From the workshops, AbSec wants to work with you to establish a network of available services, supports and resources to be delivered by Aboriginal community controlled organisations to ensure that these Aboriginal children have access to the supports they and their families need to thrive.

We are holding workshops face-to-face where possible under COVID-19 restrictions and safety plan, however we are also providing Microsoft Teams Video Conferencing & teleconference options for you to join in online or by phone, and any other suitable options.
