A Christmas surprise for Aboriginal kids

Friday 22 January 2021

Over the period leading up to Christmas, our local state MP Jo Haylen kicked off her annual Christmas toy drive. This year she chose to donate the contributions of new, unwrapped toys to AbSec, to go towards making sure 2020 ends on a high for every child.

We were overwhelmed with the response, with hundreds of presents being generously donated by people around the local area. The toys were distributed to families throughout the Sydney region, and due to the sheer number of toys donated, we also sent some to AbSec staff in Dubbo to be handed out to children in the surrounding areas.

This type of support from our local member and the Summer Hill electorate means so much to AbSec and the communities we advocate for, and it is comforting to know that there are so many people out in there that share our vision and would like to help out Aboriginal families at this important time of year.

For many, these generous donations were more than just toys. They were gifts that helped struggling families make Christmas a special time for their kids. For this reason, AbSec would like to thank everyone that was involved in in the toy drive.

Bill Pritchard, A/Executive Leader at AbSec, said “We want to say a special thank you to Jo and her staff for helping put a smile on the faces of so many kids this holidays. The hard work done by her office and the generosity of everyone in the Summer Hill electorate is especially heart-warming after such a difficult year for many. We look forward to working together again in the future to improve the lives of Aboriginal children.”
