Apply now for sponsorship to hold a Family Matters event
Friday 20 April 2018
Family Matters is Australia’s national campaign to ensure Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people grow up safe and cared for in family, community and culture.
The campaign and its supporters aim to eliminate the over-representation of Indigenous children in out-of-home care by 2040. The fact that authorities take Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their families at 10 times the rate of non-Indigenous children has been described as “one of the most pressing human rights challenges” facing our nation.
Each year, the Family Matters Week of Action draws attention to this issue and our proposed solutions. In 2018, the Week of Action will be held 14–20 May.
AbSec is pleased to offer small sponsorships to community organisations in NSW for the purpose of hosting a community event during the Week of Action.
The sponsorships, valued up to $500, could be used to cater a community morning tea to raise awareness of the Family Matters campaign; to promote the Family Matters building blocks for change, bringing attention to the solutions for a better future; or to support a community screening of the documentary film, After the Apology, which will be screened in communities throughout Australia during the week.
The event is up to you – all you need to do at this stage is apply! The application form can be found here on our website and must be returned to us (using the details on the form) by Friday 4 May.
